Apart from Year 1, which was 2 weeks, our August digs cover three weeks, Monday to Friday, 1000 – 1530.

We are a community archaeology group – we welcome all, professional and amateur, able and not-so-able, young and not-so-young, working side by side, learning together, sharing the experience and enjoying the company.

It’s all systems go for the Aylsham Roman Experience 2024. Monday – Friday, weeks beginning 5th, 12th and 19th August. Click here to read the February newsletter for full details. Read on for some changes this year.

We will be opening a very large area on the Kiln Field. This is the field you come to after entering Woodgate Nursery.

This year, there is no charge to participate, but….

• You will need to be a Friend of Aylsham Roman Project. This is only £10.
• There will be no charge to participate because:
• Professionals will be doing the excavations – see p1 & 2 of the newsletter
• There may be opportunities during the three weeks to dig, but there will be plenty of opportunity to sieve and, fingers crossed, recover finds. We’ve not been disappointed before!
• There will not be an area for children this year, sorry

Volunteers near the Welcome Tent will help you with any queries. We offer a variety of promotional items to buy as a memento of your visit. All money goes to the Project.

We would appreciate any donations as, although there is no charge to participate, we still have to pay our professional partners. We think it will be really interesting watching how they work.

We hope that refreshments, hot and cold, will be available and will confirm nearer the date.
