“Why do you only dig for three weeks?” we are often asked. We’d love to do more, but we can’t.
Apart from the cost, the rest of the year we use for archiving. All the finds are cleaned, counted and weighed, and recorded on a spreadsheet. All pottery is labelled with the site number and context number. Volunteers meet regularly to complete these tasks.
We also give talks to groups and in schools, hold fund-raising events, run a Schools’ Archaeology Week, send out newsletters, upload posts to Facebook and Twitter and keep everyone up to date with what is going on via email.
